Privacy Policy

What we collect, why we collect it, how long we keep it, and what you can ask us to do with it.

Last updated 1 September 2026 · Compliant with POPIA (Act 4 of 2013)

1. Who is responsible

Kenny's Barbering Co., of Shop 4, 14 Fourth Avenue, Parkhurst, Johannesburg, 2193, South Africa, is the responsible party for the personal information described in this policy, as that term is used in the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013 (POPIA).

Our information officer can be reached at hello@kennys.co.za or on +27 11 447 8820.

2. What we collect

We keep this deliberately small. When you book an appointment we collect:

  • Your name — so we know who to expect and what to call you.
  • Your mobile number — so we can reach you if something changes.
  • Your email address — so we can send your confirmation.
  • Your appointment details — the service, barber, date and time you chose.
  • Any notes you give us — entirely optional, and only what you choose to type.

If you tell us about a skin condition, allergy or medical matter relevant to your appointment, that is special personal information under POPIA. We record only what is necessary to perform the service safely, we use it for nothing else, and you can ask us to delete it at any time.

We do not collect payment card details through this website. All payments happen in store through our card machine or a payment app, and those providers handle the card data, not us.

3. Why we collect it

Under POPIA we must have a lawful basis for processing. Ours are:

  • To perform our agreement with you — managing your booking, preparing for your appointment and contacting you about it.
  • Our legitimate interests — running the shop, keeping a record of appointments, and managing no-shows fairly.
  • Your consent — for anything optional, such as photographing your cut for our gallery. You can withdraw consent at any time.
  • Legal obligation — keeping the accounting records the law requires us to keep.

We do not send marketing email unless you have specifically asked us to, and every such message carries an unsubscribe link.

4. What stays in your browser

This website is a static site. It has no user accounts, no login, and no server-side database of customers.

  • We use no tracking cookies, no analytics and no advertising pixels.
  • Your booking details are saved in your own browser’s localStorage so that you can look them up and re-add them to your calendar later. That data stays on your device. It is not transmitted to us or to anyone else.
  • We also store a small flag recording that you have seen our first-visit offer, so it is not shown to you repeatedly.
  • Clearing your browser data removes all of the above. It does not cancel an appointment.

The map on our Contact page is embedded from OpenStreetMap, and the add to calendar buttons link to Google Calendar and Outlook. If you use those, the provider concerned will receive a request from your browser and will apply its own privacy policy. Downloading the .ics file instead involves no third party at all.

5. Who we share it with

We do not sell, rent or trade your personal information. We share it only with:

  • the barber who is performing your appointment;
  • our accountants and auditors, where required for financial records;
  • a regulator, court or law enforcement body, where we are legally obliged to.

We do not transfer your personal information outside South Africa.

6. How long we keep it

  • Appointment records: three years from your last visit, so we can honour our redo promise and recognise returning customers.
  • Health and allergy notes: for as long as you remain a customer, or until you ask us to delete them.
  • Financial records: five years, as required by South African tax law.
  • Marketing consent: until you withdraw it.

After those periods we securely delete or anonymise the information.

7. How we protect it

Our booking records are kept on password-protected devices, access is limited to the people who need it, and this website is served over HTTPS. No system is perfect, but we keep the amount of information we hold deliberately small, which is the most effective protection of all.

8. Your rights

Under POPIA you have the right to:

  • Ask what we hold about you, and receive a copy.
  • Correct anything inaccurate or incomplete.
  • Delete information we no longer have grounds to keep.
  • Object to processing based on our legitimate interests.
  • Withdraw consent at any time, where consent was our basis.
  • Complain to the Information Regulator.

To exercise any of these, email hello@kennys.co.za. We will respond within 30 days, and there is no charge for a reasonable request.

9. Children

We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children. Bookings for under-16s are made by a parent or guardian, who provides the contact details and gives consent on the child’s behalf.

10. Changes to this policy

If we change how we handle personal information we will update this page and revise the date at the top. Material changes will also be mentioned in the shop.

11. Contact & complaints

Please come to us first — email hello@kennys.co.za or call +27 11 447 8820.

If you are not satisfied with our response, you may complain to the Information Regulator (South Africa), JD House, 27 Stiemens Street, Braamfontein, Johannesburg 2001, at inforegulator.org.za.
